Consider Every Number
Numbers are a big part of many proposals that contain pricing or other numerical conditions such as quantities, measurements, or time. If you have a larger proposal and want to find a place to start, looking at the numbers first is an easy way to sort out and separate things to consider.
When you are reviewing a proposal or pricing and preparing your position for a negotiation, highlight every number in the proposal. Every number is a negotiating point and is a good place to start when you are reviewing.
For instance you may have an extensive proposal for several supplies or services, which includes many line items and dollar amounts. Each one of those numbers is an area to consider for negotiation.
For your personal situation think about interest rates on credit cards, loans or purchases for things like vehicles or property. Numbers are the most common thing to negotiate and depending on how many numbers your are dealing with, you can break them out and discuss each number or set of numbers separately.
Considering every number in your negotiation is the best way to start evaluating what you want to negotiate.
