Embrace the Suck
Okay, so it happened. You dared to suck and you actually sucked at whatever it was you did, whether it was a negotiation or something else. That’s awesome! Now it’s time to embrace it and be okay with it.
Embrace it? Really? Yes, really. The first place many of us will go is to beat ourselves up for making a mistake or messing something up that we have attempted to do.
Whenever you do anything, you should always do an “After Action Report/Review” or “AAR.” You should look at what worked, what didn’t and what could be improved for next time. That’s part of embracing the suck. You have to analyze it and see what could have been done to prevent it or improve it.
The main thing to remember is to embrace it and be ok with it not being perfect the first time or any other time. As long as you go into it with the idea that you are doing the best you can and giving it your all, that’s what embracing the suck is all about. Embracing it is a different way to go about making improvements than the normal place most people go where they beat themselves up for not being outstanding.
Ignoring it will not make it go away or get better. Embrace it so you can improve it for next time.
See you next week!
